L’ecole Hackathon – 2017
The first ever Hackathon was conducted at L’ecole on the 9th of February 2017, Thursday by the L’ecole Coding Club from 02:00- 03:00 pm.
A hackathon is where individuals use their creativity and problem solving skills to design technical solutions. Learning computational and problem solving skills is crucial for children today and the Coding Club focuses on developing these skills in students through programming and game development.
Over 11 students from the MYP and SYP sections participated in this hackathon where the 1st prize was won by Ibad Asim of Grade 6, the second prize was won by Raheel Noorani of Grade 10 and the third prize was won by Hasan Kaifee of Grade 10.
The students were asked to code the solution to one of the 2 programs. The first was a game called MyMagic8Ball game which provided answers to the user’s random questions and the second was an online report card grading system. The students were given 30 minutes to complete the task.
We would like to thank Ms. Sarah Khalid and Ms. Mariam Vohra for taking such a great initiative to encourage students to learn and develop their problem solving and coding skills which will help the students in their future careers.
